Matthew's first days on the Force will make him or break him!
London, 1914. A woman is attacked in her home and left for dead. Elsewhere in the city, two Suffragettes, eager to further the cause, plan a spectacular act of arson, an act that will put them in the path of the law.
In Hackney, the Metropolitan Police Force has a new constable: PC Matthew Stannard. He's wanted to be a policeman since he was a boy, but the reality of the job is testing his resolve. Police Sergeant Buckley, tasked with showing him the ropes, is no pillar of decency, and he's leading the wet-behind-the-ears constable down a road of corruption Matthew never wanted to walk.
The streets of Hackney will test him as a copper. But it's the sergeant walking beside him who will test him as a man.
